EL AL to Discontinue Direct Sao Paulo Flights as of November 10, 2011

EL AL CEO Elyezer Shkedy: “The continued sharp increases in fuel costs and security expenditures on the route require us to re-examine the EL AL flight schedule.”

A solution will be found for customers who have ticketed flights for November 10, 2011 or later and these customers will reach their destination.

Flights to South America with EL AL will utilize the existing route network and continuation flights from Europe and North America.

This decision is part of EL AL's efforts to increase cost effectiveness and reduce expenses.

EL AL CEO Elyezer Shkedy: “The continuous sharp rise in fuel costs compels us to re-examine EL AL's destinations, as other airlines are doing at this time.

“The unprecedented spike in jet fuel costs (about 40%), security expenses and high operating costs on this route all led to this decision.
This reality obliges us to examine the profitability of every one of our flights.”

Shkedy emphasizes that “along with this step, EL AL intends to offer its customers flights to South America through a schedule of continuation flights, relying on EL AL's direct network of destinations in North America and Europe and code share agreements with other airlines.

“A solution will be found for customers who have already ticketed their flights for November 10, 2011 or later to ensure that they reach their destinations.”
