What is the Extra Comfort Seat Service?


EL AL offers you the possibility of upgrading your flight experience in Economy Class by purchasing an Extra Comfort Seat, adjacent to your seat on the flight (if it is available). As a rule, you will be able to receive 1, 2,3 Extra Comfort Seats per reservation (even if the reservation includes several passengers). In specific situations.

Extra Comfort Seat Service is available on select EL AL flights – as determined by commercial laws set down by EL AL and at its sole discretion.

Please note: EL AL will do its utmost to approve the Extra Comfort adjacent seat. Confirmation of your registration and bid for an Extra Comfort Seat is conditional on your consent to change your seat to a different location (if you have already selected a seat for your flight).

Even after the allocation of the Extra Comfort seat, ticket conditions remain identical to those of the original ticket that you purchased, with regard to cancelation fees, change fees, minimum and maximum stays at your destination, baggage and other restrictions.

The Extra Comfort Seat is intended for your use, to make your flight more comfortable. The Extra Comfort Seat does not give you additional benefits and/or entitlement to baggage or an additional meal and is not intended for transporting baggage or pets.

EL AL reserves the right to accept/not accept your bid for specific flights according to a number of criteria defined by EL AL and updated from time to time at EL AL's exclusive discretion, such as: flight status, amount of the bid, etc.




How to submit a bid for purchasing the Extra Comfort Seat Service


The bid for the Extra Comfort Seat tender can be submitted through the EL AL website (even if the ticket was not purchased online), once you have confirmation of a ticket reservation, up to 72 hours before the flight departure time.

You may choose to submit your Extra Comfort Seat bid for one segment of your flight (departing or returning) or for the full itinerary. The amounts can be different.


  1. When the flight ticket reservation is made on the EL AL website, a special window appears on the confirmation of reservation page (at the end of the process), offering the option of registering for the Extra Comfort Seat service. By clicking on the window, you will be transferred to the upgrade system where you can complete the reservation process in three quick and easy stages:
    • Bid for the Extra Comfort Seat (amount), selecting the number of Extra Comfort Seats for purchase and choosing the relevant flight segments.
    • Enter credit card details (the card will only be debited only if your bid is accepted).
    • Confirm the summary of the bid details and submit.

  2. The Extra Comfort Seat bid can be submitted on the EL AL Upgrade interface. If you did not submit an Extra Comfort Seat bid at the end of the online reservation process or you purchased your ticket at the EL AL Service Center or through your travel agent, you can enter the upgrade system through the EL AL Upgrade interface on the home page of the website. 

    In the system you will be asked to enter your flight reservation number and your family name and click on the Continue button. If the service is available on your flight, an upgrade window will appear. Clicking on the Upgrade button will transfer you to the upgrade system where you can complete the process as described in section 1 above.



At the end of registration, an email notification will be sent to you confirming the upgrade bid/registration for the Extra Comfort Seat service. This notification can be used for changing or canceling the bid.

EL AL will examine the Extra Comfort Seat bids submitted by passengers, about 30 hours before the flight departure time or 48 hours before the flight departure time in the event of intervening holidays or Sabbath. The bids will be weighted according to several criteria and commercial laws as defined by EL AL and updated from time to time at EL AL's sole discretion, such as: flight status, amount of the bid, etc. After a decision has been made to accept or reject an upgrade bid, appropriate notification will be sent to the passengers.

Approximately 30 hours before the flight departure time or 48 hours before the flight departure time in the event of intervening holidays or Sabbath you will receive an email notification confirming acceptance of the upgrade (a separate notification will be received for each flight segment). Afterwards you will be able to check in online for all of the seats. If your bid was not accepted, an email will be sent to you informing you of this.

You may change/cancel your Extra Comfort Seat bid through the EL AL Upgrade interface or through a link to the interface for changes that appears in the notification confirming your registration that you received by email at the time you submitted your bid. The bid may be canceled or changed up to 72 hours before the flight departure time.

Extra Comfort Seat Service Cost and Conditions for Canceling the Service


Please note: Submission of an Extra Comfort Seat bid does not entail any payment. The details of the credit card must be entered when registering your bid to allow the card to be verified with the credit card company. If your Extra Comfort Seat bid is accepted, the credit card whose details you entered at the time of registration will be debited for the amount that you submitted as a bid for the Extra Comfort Seat. If your bid is not accepted, the credit card will not be debited.

You may choose the amount you wish to submit as a bid for an Extra Comfort Seat. For every flight segment there is a minimum starting price.

A bid for an Extra Comfort Seat and its approval are valid for the specific flight for which it was submitted (and approved). Extra Comfort Seat approval cannot be transferred to a flight on a different date. However, you can submit a new Extra Comfort Seat bid for a different flight.

This is to clarify that if the change or cancelation is made after approval for the Extra Comfort Seat was received, the amount charged for the seat will not be refunded and cannot be used as payment for an Extra Comfort Seat at another time.

If the Extra Comfort Seat is canceled by EL AL, you are entitled to a full refund of the amount that you bid and were charged for the Extra Comfort Seat. The refund will be transferred to the credit card company within 5 work days. If the Extra Comfort Seat was canceled, you will receive a different seat on your Economy Class flight according to seat availability at the time of the cancelation (this is to clarify that the original seat will not necessarily be saved for you).
