EL AL Israel Airlines Ltd. (henceforth “EL AL”) and Steimatzky (2005) Ltd. (henceforth “Steimatzky”) herewith announce a prize-bearing competition (henceforth “the competition”) to be jointly managed, as specified below.
Your participation in the competition confirms your agreement to the regulation conditions. Therefore, you are advised to read them carefully.
The competition regulations follow:
- Duration of the Competition: The competition will be held from June 1 – 30, 2012 (henceforth “duration of the competition”).
- Conditions of Participation in the Competition:
- Any person who was on an EL AL flight on which registration forms were distributed and who completed the registration form as required and submitted it to a flight crew member is entitled to participate in the competition.
- The competition regulations can be found on the EL AL website and with the flight crew.
- To participate in the competition, each participant must fill in his/her personal details as required on the registration form.
- The requirement for filling in the above mentioned personal details accurately and fully is the sole responsibility of the person competing in the competition. EL AL and Steimatzky are not and will not bear responsibility for verifying their details and/or their style and/or their typing (these details will be used for notifying or sending the prize to the winner).
- The competition is open to anyone who is interested in participating and who flies EL AL during the duration of the competition. EL AL and Steimatzky employees may participate in the competition but are not entitled to receive any prize whatsoever.
- EL AL and Steimatzky are entitled to disqualify participants who use content that does not meet the conditions of the competition, or for any reason, including illegible handwriting, at the sole discretion of EL AL and Steimatzky.
- The competition is being held only in the Hebrew language. Participants may submit stories in English, and Steimatzky may choose to translate them into Hebrew. If Steimatzky decides not to translate the submitted story, that story will not compete in the competition.
- Every action, detail, domain and commitment mentioned in these regulations as performed by Steimatzky will be the sole responsibility of Steimatzky.
- Every action, detail, domain and commitment mentioned in these regulations as performed by EL AL will be the sole responsibility of EL AL.
- Competition Contents:
- The flight crew will distribute registration forms on select EL AL flights, of EL AL's own choosing. The form includes 2 introductions to short stories written by authors.
- Participants in the competition are asked to write, in the course of the flight, a short story as a continuation of the introduction they choose, or as a continuation of their own original introduction, in their own handwriting and on pages designed for this purpose, up to 2000 words.
- During the flight, the crew will collect the stories.
- Every passenger who submits a story during the flight will receive a benefit from Steimatzky. The benefit is consultation and receipt of a professional opinion on the recipient’s manuscript, free of charge, sponsored by the Literary Incubator. In order to receive this benefit, the client must call Steimatzky at 1-700-706-600 to arrange a meeting. The benefit is a gift of Steimatzky and at its sole responsibility.
- A passenger who did not submit a story during the flight, for any reason, but is interested in submitting a story after the flight, not later than the duration of the competition, should send an email to EL AL's customer services noting the details of the flight and requesting permission to submit a story belatedly. EL AL is entitled to grant the request, at its own discretion.
- A designated team comprising Steimatzky personnel only will read all of the stories submitted during the duration of the competition, and will choose 30 stories to compete in the finals.
- The 30 stories chosen for the final competition will be published on EL AL's Facebook website and surfers will be able to vote for the winning story, in accordance with rules defined on the site.
- The prize committee, comprising representatives of the authors who composed the story introductions as well as EL AL and Steimatzky representatives, will choose the winning story from among the 30 in the competition final, based on the Facebook surfers’ selection and on other criteria, at its own discretion. The committee will award the prize described below.
- Likewise, the prize committee will choose 20 of the stories that reached the finals and these will be bound in a book that will be offered for sale at the Steimatzky book store chain. The selection will be based on the choices of the Facebook surfers and on other criteria, at the committee’s discretion.
- Winning and the Competition Prize
- The writer of the winning story will be entitled to have his/her First Book published by Steimatzky, including editing, copy-editing, graphics and cover design, and an edition of at least 500 copies, in paperback format. The right to have this First Book published will be valid for up to two years from the time of winning the competition. Steimatzky undertakes to sell the book at its branches for a period of time that it will determine. If the winner and Steimatzky do not come to an agreement regarding production of the book (editing, copy-editing, etc.) and or regarding problematic content that the book may contain, Steimatzky is entitled to cancel this prize.
- The winning story will also entitle the author to roundtrip Economy Class flight tickets for two to any one of EL AL's destination in Europe, valid for one year.
- The flight tickets for two that will be awarded to the winner, are valid for direct flights operated by EL AL (not including code share flights with another carrier, operated by another airline, even if it bears EL AL's flight code), on a confirmed seat basis, reserved in advance, and subject to availability on the desired flight in the appropriate class (henceforth “the ticket” or “the flight ticket.”)
- The 20 stories selected from the 30 stories that reached the finals will be bound in a book that will be sold at Steimatzky stores and promoted on various EL AL and Steimatzky platforms.
- EL AL and Steimatzky reserve the right to hold a filmed ceremony for choosing the winning book and/or a filmed ceremony of awarding the prize, that will be shown any place they wish and in any media, and the participants whose stories reached the finals undertake to participate in the ceremony, as requested by EL AL and Steimatzky and arranged in advance.
- The First Book prize is a gift solely from Steimatzky, and Steimatzky bears sole responsibility for awarding it.
- The collection of 20 stories as a book is exclusively a Steimatzky product, and responsibility for its execution according to the conditions specified in these regulations is borne solely by Steimatzky.
- The flight ticket prize is solely an EL AL gift, and EL AL bears sole responsibility for providing it.
- Conditions for Winning the Flight Ticket and other Prizes:
- The first prize winner will be obligated to have his/her First Book published within two years of the date of winning the prize, or he/she will relinquish the right of publication and will no longer have the right to the prize or to receive any alternative prize or monetary compensation, whatsoever.
- The first prize winner will be obligated to use the flight tickets (including the return flight) within one year from the date of winning. After this date, the right to use the tickets will be relinquished and the winner will not be entitled to the prize or to receive any alternative prize or monetary compensation, whatsoever.
- Taxes, levies and fees stipulated by law for receiving the prize will be paid by the winner when the flight ticket is issued. Surcharges as set down by EL AL will be paid by the winner.
- No EL AL Matmid Frequent Flyer Club points will be earned on these tickets.
- The ticket may not be upgraded to higher Classes by means of Matmid points.
- The flight ticket is subject to ticket conditions and EL AL's general transportation conditions as specified in the EL AL website.
- EL AL or a party on EL AL's behalf will contact the winner, according to the details filled in upon registration for the competition, in order to advise regarding the win. The ticket reservation will be made by the winner directly through the EL AL Direct Sales Center, by calling 03-9771111.
- If incorrect details were submitted, and/or it is not possible to contact the winner during 3 (three) work days from the date the competition was won, the prizes will be awarded to the next competitors in line, according to the criteria specified above, and so on.
- Attempts to contact the winner will be made during regular work hours, by means of email and/or the website and/or the telephone number submitted at registration.
- To receive the prize, the winner will have to present an identifying document. Receipt of the prize is conditional on verification of the winner’s identification by EL AL in any legal manner, at EL AL's discretion.
- As a condition for awarding the prize, EL AL is entitled to demand that the winner sign authorizations, declarations and waivers in accordance with these regulations. Not signing the aforesaid documents will disqualify the winner from receiving the prize.
- Prizes are awarded individually, according to the details submitted when registering for the competition. It will not be possible to transfer the prizes to another person.
- The prize cannot be changed or exchanged for another prize and/or another gift and/or cash and/or credit and there will be no refund of any amount that was not used, in full or in part.
- EL AL reserves the right to add, detract or change the prize and offer an alternative prize, at its exclusive discretion.
- Intellectual and Property Rights
- All stories submitted to EL AL as part of the competition will be the exclusive property of EL AL and Steimatzky who will accordingly be entitled to make any use of them as they wish, jointly and severally.
- Participants will not have easement and/or any other rights to use the story except after receiving written consent from EL AL and Steimatzky, jointly and severally.
- By entering the competition, participants represent and warrant that the stories are their original products that do not violate or infringe upon the copyright or any other rights of a third party whatsoever.
- EL AL and Steimatzky reserve the right to create an anthology of stories using stories that were submitted as part of the competition and to publish individual stories, wherever they wish including in Atmosphere magazine, on websites, on their Facebook pages, in a collection of stories at Steimatzky’s stores, etc.
- General
- Every participant in the competition declares, agrees and confirms that the participant and the stories that are submitted to the crew for the competition, and/or his/her winning and/or not winning may be covered, filmed and broadcast through the media, including television, newspapers, the EL AL and Steimatzky websites and other internet sites, and that by taking part in the competition, the participant expresses his/her agreement to publicize and/or photograph his/her material, name, place of residence and portrait photograph within and as part of the coverage and above publications, including advertising and sales promotion campaigns of EL AL and Steimatzky. Nevertheless, EL AL and Steimatzky do not promise or guarantee such promotions for the participant and/or his/her material. This is to clarify that the participant submitted the stories of his/her own free will to EL AL and Steimatzky with no intention of receiving payment or refund for them, apart from participation in the competition, and the participant gives his/her final and irrevocable waiver regarding any demands for payments from EL AL and Steimatzky and/or on their behalf for use of the submitted materials. EL AL and Steimatzky will not bear the cost or other expense for use of the story submitted by the participant as stated above.
- These regulations apply to females and males individually and/or in the plural.
- In any case of an inconsistency and/or incompatibility of any kind between these regulations and other published material regarding the competition, including in the press and/or broadcasts and/or on the EL AL website and/or at Steimatzky stores and sites, the directives of these regulations will prevail, with all their implications.
- Participation in the competition is also subject to the conditions of Facebook’s use and privacy policies; however the conditions of these regulations will prevail in any contradiction between them.
- The participant in this competition declares, agrees and confirms that he/she knows that these regulations combine components of entertainment and pleasure as part of the competition, and that it is possible that despite the efforts of EL AL and Steimatzky, some disruptions and/or malfunctions and/or mishaps may occur at any stage of the competition.
- EL AL and Steimatzky will be entitled to change the format of the competition, its stages, content, character, procedures and duration at their own absolute discretion, in cases that justify the aforesaid changes. Such changes in the conditions of the competition, as mentioned in this clause, will be announced on the EL AL website and/or in any other manner that EL AL and Steimatzky deem proper.
- Wherever these regulations state that the discretion is that of EL AL, there shall be no claim or suit of any type against EL AL or any party on EL AL's behalf regarding its considerations, and these considerations will be exclusively reserved for EL AL, and no explanation will be required. EL AL's decision on each and every matter related to the completion is final and decisive.
- Wherever these regulations state that the discretion is that of Steimatzky, there shall be no claim or suit of any type to Steimatzky or any party on Steimatzky's behalf regarding its considerations, and these considerations will be exclusively reserved for Steimatzky, and no explanation will be required. Steimatzky's decision on each and every matter related to the competition is final and decisive.
- Without detracting from the generality of the aforesaid, the participant agrees and undertakes that any disruption, malfunction, delay and the like, whose origin is force majeure, war (including between countries or parties other than Israel), strikes, sanctions, terror attacks, natural disasters and any other incident that is not under EL AL and Steimatzky’s control will not be considered a breach of these regulations, and will not be cause for any assistance and/or entitlement and/or remedy.
- The prize description in these regulations and/or in any other EL AL publication is general and does not obligate EL AL and Steimatzky. EL AL and Steimatzky are entitled to change the prizes offered within the framework of this competition, at their own discretion.
- EL AL and Steimatzky reserve the right at any time to award one or more additional prizes, at their sole discretion.
- EL AL and Steimatzky reserve the right to cancel or change parts of the competition and/or of the regulations at their sole discretion.
- Without detracting from the directives of these regulations and any laws, EL AL and/or Steimatzky are entitled to withhold any prize from the party who won it while committing a crime or unlawful act.
- The participant is responsible for following the timetable as specified in these regulations.
