Improved Process for Issuing a Bonus ticket or Upgrade

Frequently asked Questions:

  1. What should I do so as not to lose points? Will I gain time for points that are soon to expire?
If your points are to expire in the coming months, we recommend issuing a voucher so that you can take advantage of the points for another year. If your point validity does not expire in the coming months, there is no need to issue a voucher.

  2. How will this procedure be carried out in the future? If there are no vouchers, what should I do?
All you have to do is enter the EL AL website and book a bonus flight. The points for the ticket will be debited as soon as the ticket is issued. You can also contact your travel agent or the EL AL Telephone Service Center to make the reservation. Reserving a bonus flight through the EL AL Telephone Service Center entails a handling fee.

  3. What will happen to my vouchers that have not yet been ticketed?
Vouchers for bonus tickets or upgrades that have not been ticketed by December 31, 2013 will be canceled on January 1, 2014 and the points will be returned to your account.
The validity of the points that are returned to your account will be as follows:
    • If the point validity date is later than the voucher validity date – the points will be returned with their original validity date.
    • If the point validity date is earlier than or the same as the voucher validity date – the points will be returned with the original validity of the voucher.

Matmid members whose points are returned to them for vouchers that were not ticketed by December 31, 2013 will receive on January 1, 2014 an email to the email address listed in their account listing the details of the vouchers that were canceled and the number of points returned to their accounts.
You will also be able to view this letter in the Messages section of the personal zone on the Club website (as of January 1, 2014). See print screen below:

  5. What happens if I issued a voucher including points that I purchased (BPN points) to supplement missing points?
If, for example, you issued a voucher for 900 points to Western Europe and 200 of the points were to be purchased, only 700 points will be returned to your account.
Reminder: Payment for missing points is made only at the time of ticketing.

  6. Can the validity of the points be extended?
The validity of the points that were earned for EL AL flights and were not used for vouchers will not change. These points (including the added points earned by premium members) will have a validity of 3 years.
As noted above, the validity of the points that are returned to your account due to vouchers that were issued but not ticketed by December 31, 2013, will be as follows:

    • If the validity date of the points is later than the validity date of the voucher, the points will be returned with their original validity date.
    • If the validity date of the points is earlier than or the same as the validity date of the
voucher, the points will be returned with the original validity date of the voucher.
It should be emphasized again that if the validity of the points is earlier than or the same as the validity of the voucher, the points will be returned to the account with the original validity date of the voucher, so you benefit from extended validity of the points.

  7. As I am obliged to ticket my points and I have not yet decided which destination I wish to fly to, can I change the ticket if needed? Will the change entail a handling fee?

  8. Why was the procedure changed?
The new procedure is in line with the airline industry and makes the procedure for issuing bonus tickets easier for all parties involved, especially Matmid members who were required to complete an additional and complicated process to exercise their entitlement to a bonus ticket.

EL AL was one of the only airlines in the world to use this system, and its decision to adopt the system used in the industry worldwide allows it to improve and streamline its service to its club members. It is important to remember that your flight must take place within one year of issuing the bonus ticket

  9. How does this impact on advance upgrades for points? What is the procedure for upgrading?
    These are the stages:
    • Make a reservation and ticket it in the original class (in Economy Class: Y, S, M and in Business Class I, C)
    • Change the reservation to an upgraded class (R in Business Class and A in First Class).
    • Contact a travel agent or EL AL representative to pay for the upgrade with points.
    • The points are automatically debited from your account and a flight ticket in the higher class is sent to you.
