Baggage allowances for all flights booked and flying
after November 1, 2011.

Please note below important changes to your baggage allowances for all flights booked and flying after November 1, 2011.

From this date, all baggage will be measured and weighed on a ‘piece’ system, rather than a defined weight allowance.

Our airport staff have been told to be very strict with these rules, so it is important that you understand them fully and prepare accordingly.

For customers flying:

Economy Class:

  1. You will only be permitted one piece of check-in baggage up to 23kg free of charge
  2. From 23.1-26kg the first bag will have an excess charge of US $20
  3. From 26.1-32*kg, the first bag will be charged an additional US $50 (Total $70)
  4. A second bag of up to 23kg will entail an excess baggage charge of US $100, and then points 2-3 (above) apply.
  5. If you have two ‘light’ bags, even if their total weight is less than 23kgs, you will be charged for 2 bags, as per 4 above.
  6. Any additional baggage over the above allowances will be charged at 1.5% of the highest direct one way economy fare per kg.

Note for Matmid Passengers:

  1. It is important to note that until now all Matmid Passengers were allowed up to 5kg extra on their first bag. After November 1, Matmid TL members will be allowed the same as all other passengers, 23kg free for your first bag, as per points 1-6 above.
  2. We would ask you to note that members of our Matmid Frequent Traveller Programmes [Silver and above] will continue to receive an additional weight allowance, but this will be based upon the “piece system” and not total weight.

Business Class:

  1. You will only be permitted two pieces of check-in baggage up to 32*kg (each) free of charge
  2. Any additional baggage over the above allowances will be charged at 1.5% of the highest direct one way economy fare per kg.

First Class:

  1. You will only be permitted three pieces of check-in baggage up to 32*kg (each) free of charge
  2. Any additional baggage over the above allowances will be charged at 1.5% of the highest direct one way economy fare per kg.

* NB: Bags over 32kg will be rejected as airport regulations do not allow any bag to exceed 32kg. If you come with a suitcase heavier than 32kg, you will be asked to remove items and may face a charge for an extra item of baggage if you wish to re-bag these items and check-in another piece.
