EL AL Israel Airlines Rings in Purim with First-Ever
National Hamantaschen Eating Championship

Professional-Eating Champion Sets World Record for 25 Hamantaschen in Five Minutes!

New York, NY – March 13, 2012 – EL AL Israel Airlines hosted the first-ever National Hamantaschen Eating Championship at the Ramaz Middle School in New York City. The contest was part of the many festivities organized by Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun (KJ) Synagogue, in honor of the Jewish holiday Purim. Anyone 18 years or older was eligible to enter to win a roundtrip ticket to Israel and compete against acclaimed professional-eating champion, Will “The Champ” Millender.

In the five minute eating competition, Will “The Champ” set the first world record for eating 25 hamantaschen provided by Borenstein Caterers, Inc. (which provides all EL AL in-flight kosher meals from New York).  Rob “The Hebrew Hammer” Wizenberg achieved first place among the seven amateur contestants by devouring 14 hamantaschen. EL AL Vice President/General Manger, North and Central America, Danny Saadon awarded Rob with a roundtrip ticket to Israel. Second place amateur winner Rabbi Eli Weinstock consumed 10 hamantashen.
