EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES AND JEWISH NATIONAL FUND TO PLANT FOREST IN CARMEL MOUNTAIN

TO BE NAMED AFTER PASSENGERS PURCHASING ONLINE TICKETS TO ISRAEL

New York, NY –– December 7, 2010-- EL AL Israel Airlines and Jewish National Fund (JNF), two leading recognizable names associated with the State of Israel, have announced a new effort to help rebuild some of the devastated areas that resulted from the worst fires in Israel’s history. The EL AL and JNF forest will be planted on Carmel Mountain on behalf of every passenger purchasing a ticket to Israel online from North America. EL AL President Elyezer Shkedy and Jewish National Fund CEO Russell Robinson met this weekend in Israel to discuss and announce this initiative.

“EL AL Israel Airlines is committed to help restore the Carmel Forest in response to this terrible tragedy and is proud to partner with JNF,” commented Shkedy.  “As the national airline, it is our tradition and responsibility to participate in such an important project to assist those in need. We look forward to being part of the recovery process in the region which is home to thousands of families and wildlife.”

EL AL customers in North America who purchase a ticket to Israel online at www.elal.com will receive a certificate that EL AL and JNF are planting a tree on their behalf. Every year, tens of thousands of passengers departing from the USA purchase their EL AL tickets online.

The devastating fire, which broke out on December 2nd, has to date caused the tragic loss of 42 lives and more than 13,000 acres of forest in the Carmel Mountains have been destroyed.

About the Jewish National Fund (JNF)

The Jewish National Fund began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 108 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for partnering with the land and people of Israel. JNF has planted 240 million trees; built over 1,000 parks and recreational areas; constructed security roads; educated students around the world about Israel; created new communities so that Jews from around the world would have a place to call home; discovered new means of growing plants under arid conditions, bringing green to the desert; and built over 200 reservoirs and water recycling centers, increasing Israel’s water supply by 10%. Today, JNF is supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers by bringing life to the Negev Desert, Israel’s last frontier.

A United Nations NGO, JNF sponsors international conferences on desertification, shares afforestation techniques, and funds research on arid land management. JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers. For more information on JNF, call 888-JNF-0099 or visit www.jnf.org.
