New York, NY – November 1, 2010 – The President and CEO of EL AL Israel Airlines, Elyezer Shkedy, highlighted the continued success and growth of the company as well as future goals of the airline.  At the press conference, Shkedy stated that he is planning to expand ties in the Far East, specifically on the routes between Israel and Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, and Bangkok. Additionally, Shkedy noted he is currently making progress in developing partnerships with other major carriers flying to Brazil, China, India, and Russia. EL AL and Air China have already signed an agreement to ease travel between these two countries.

The economic success of EL AL in 2010 has been one of the best years ever.  In the first half of 2010, the loss to the airline has been drastically reduced as compared to the same time period last year. Shkedy also stated that EL AL remains committed to being the only airline offering First Class service on flights between North America and Israel. Other topics of discussion included the recent partnership with JetBlue Airways as well as the existing code share agreement with American Airlines.  Both agreements provide excellent connections and better value to EL AL passengers travelling to Israel from 57 additional cities in North America. Recently launched nonstop flights between Ben Gurion International Airport and the southern beach resort of Eilat continue to meet expectations.  For EL AL passengers travelling from the USA, the special $40 roundtrip fare between these two destinations has proven to be a huge success. EL AL is also launching new online vacation packages called “EL AL AL Vacations” that offer attractive prices combining air, hotel, and touring to all major destination within Israel.

Shkedy also affirmed his commitment that EL AL would continue to not fly on the Sabbath (Friday to Saturday sunset), serve only Kosher meals and uniquely spend tens of millions of dollars on security each year as he feels these are just a few of the many responsibilities  of the national airline of Israel.
