Amnon Hammer

Amnon Hammer has been with EL AL since 1986. In 2003, he was appointed as Director of Engineering, responsible for all airline engineering disciplines:  Avionics, Structures & Interiors, Ground Equipment, Systems & Power Plant, Maintenance Specifications, Weight & Balance Performance, Technical Publications and Design/Drafting. Like most of his colleagues, Amnon began his career in the Israel Air Force, where he served as an Aviation Technician.

The Engineering Division consists of 75 employees – 27 holding BSc. degrees in Engineering.  In addition to the day-to-day support of airline activities, the Engineering Division is active in the design, Certification and execution of in-house modifications in various areas, such as configuration changes to A/C LOPAs including monuments addition/relocation, seat modification and IFE systems upgrade on all aircraft types.

The greatest engineering achievement was made in modifying and upgrading the interior configuration on the 777 and 747-400 A/C to add PC power system to the entire aircraft, configuration change and upgrading and relocating the IFE system and it'sassociated cooling system under the FAA STCs.

In 2008 Amnon was assigned and relocated to Seattle for delivering new 737NG A/C from Boeing. At that time he was also heading an additional project in Tel Aviv on the 777 A/C to add lavatories instead of a VCC (Video Control Center) that was moved to the aircraft crown with appropriate changes to the aircraft structure and the cooling and venting systems.

In Dec 2012 Ammon was assigned as Director Program management to take over and be responsible for the major and complex projects that where previously handled within Engineering together with day by day activities. The division between the disciplines enables better concentration and a more professional approach to these complex programs which are directly affecting EL AL's future and strategy.

Amnon Hammer earned a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba in 1984 and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in the Executive MBA program at Tel Aviv University in 1997.
