Baggage Allowance

When you arrive at the check-in counter at the airport, an EL AL representative will check your hand luggage. If it exceeds the permitted size or weight limits for carry-on cases as specified above, the case will be tagged as a regular suitcase and will be sent to the aircraft hold.

Permitted Weight for Carry-on Cases on EL AL Flights

Economy Class

You are entitled to one piece of hand luggage
weighing up to 8 kg (17pounds).
If you have a laptop you wish to take into the cabin, it will have to be packed within your hand luggage.
Business Class/
Platinum Class

You are entitled to two pieces of hand luggage weighing
a total of 20 kg (44 pounds) – one piece of hand luggage
weighing up to 16 kg (35 pounds) and another weighing up to 4 kg for a portable computer or attaché case

First Class

You are entitled to two pieces of hand luggage weighing
a total of 24 kg (52 pounds) – one piece of hand luggage weighing
up to 16 kg (35 pounds) and another weighing up to 8 kg (17 pounds)

Platinum/Gold Passengers You are entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing 8 kg (17 pounds) and another bag weighing up to 4 kg (8 pounds) for a portable computer or attaché case or similar (in two hand luggage pieces) – a total of 12 kg (26 pounds) permitted.


Permitted Exception:


  • For passengers with hand luggage exceeding the permitted size or weight, such as:
    A cello – Passengers wishing to fly with the oversize object in the aircraft cabin will be required to purchase an additional seat.
    * EL AL is not obliged to transport oversize baggage in the passenger cabin without advance authorization.

  • Physicians on duty may carry two pieces of general hand luggage of a maximum weight of 24 kg (maximal weight of one piece of hand luggage is 16 kg).
  • When storing space is limited, passengers may be asked to check-in their hand bag.
