EL AL to operate on the basis of the TSA’s guidelines regarding bringing containers of liquids aboard flights departing for the United States, as required by all airlines flying to the US, starting September 19, 2011

According to the guidelines of the American Transportation Security Administration (TSA) all airlines are required to perform security checks conforming to the TSA’s guidelines for flights departing for the US. This includes the directive not to allow passengers to board flights while carrying packaged liquids of over 100 ml.

According to the guidelines, passengers will not be allowed to bring liquids, gels or creams in their hand luggage on flights headed to the US with the following exceptions:

  1. The packages are 3.4 oz (100 ml) or smaller.
  2. The packages are inserted into small transparent plastic bags; one such bag will be allowed per passenger.

In response to a special effort made jointly with the Israel Airports Authority today on behalf of EL AL passengers, it was agreed that EL AL passengers to the United States may continue to board its planes carrying liquid products, including cosmetics and  alcoholic beverages, that are purchased at Ben-Gurion Airport’s duty-free shops and that are packaged especially for these flights.
Any other liquid exceeding the 100 ml. limit not packaged in these special bags will not be allowed on board, in accordance with the directives of the US Transportation Security Administration.

Liquids purchased in the duty-free shops, at the airport, will be packed in a sealed bag.

As of September 19, 2011, there will be a security check at the boarding gate to screen all hand luggage of passengers flying to the United States. Passengers with packaged liquids not meeting the above provisions in their hand luggage will not be allowed to board with them. In order to avoid any unpleasantness at the airport, EL AL recommends that all passengers flying to the US pack all liquids in their checked and stowed luggage.

Passengers who will be boarding domestic US flights must continue to abide by these guidelines while purchasing products on the flight and later, until the time of their domestic flight.
