As of December 30, 2012, all EL AL passengers can purchase Preferred Seats in advance – at the end of the reservation process, as is the policy for ordering Economy Class Plus seats. A Preferred Seat in Economy Class is a seat near an emergency exit or the bulkhead, affording more legroom.
Until now, these seats were sold to passengers who are not Matmid Top Platinum, Platinum or Gold members at the check-in counters at the airport and seating was allocated according to a waitlist the passengers registered for in advance on the EL AL website.
As of December 30, these seats can be ordered when purchasing tickets. Within 24 hours from the reservation, an EL AL representative will contact the passenger to confirm the seats, if such seats are available.
A Preferred Seat in Economy Class is a seat near an emergency exit door or the bulkhead affording more legroom.
These seats are awarded free of charge to Matmid Top Platinum customers and one accompanying passenger (on the same flight) and to Platinum and Gold Matmid members.
Bulkhead seats are allocated to parents traveling with babies up to 9 months old, free of charge.
The Price for a Preferred Seat:
$49 per direction on short- and medium-range routes
$99 per direction on long-range routes
105 Matmid points per direction on short- and medium range routes
199 Matmid points per direction on long-range routes
