EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES UNCORKS NEW WINE LIST
RECOGNIZED BY WINE CONNAISSEURS AND AWARDED BY BUSINESS TRAVEL PUBLICATIONS
NEW YORK – June 2, 2014 – EL AL Israel Airlines presents an all-Israeli wine experience with its new curated seasonal menu. Continually recognized for serving freshly prepared in-flight cuisine, EL AL exclusively offers a variety of the finest Israeli wines to all passengers, proudly promoting the country’s popular wine industry.
Israel’s ancient tradition of working the land has morphed into a thriving wine industry determined to produce world-class wine. With more than 200 wineries within the country, Yair Haidu, one of Israel's highest profile wine personalities and experts, selects wines for EL AL with the theory of helping passengers discover new Israeli destinations. The new dynamic list features options from well-known wineries as well as those that are sought-after boutique family owned and operated. The summer wine menu, to be launched July 1st, will feature selections from Israeli vineyards such as Teperberg, Barkan, Dalton and Binyamina.
Each month, EL AL premium class passengers also enjoy a “Wine of the Month” and “Discovery of the Month,” which allows the airline to surprise, diversify and refresh passengers palates. June’s “Wine of the Month” will be Judean Mountains White, a Chardonnay from Tzora Winery and the “Discovery of the Month” is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Bravdo Winery. Additionally, passengers receive monthly tips and education in a new “Wine For Thought” newsletter in English and Hebrew that is distributed in-flight.
Held annually, The Business Traveller Magazine “Cellars in the Sky Competition” and Global Traveler “GT Tested Awards” use a team of professional tasters to determine the best wines from among hundreds served in Business and First Class by international airlines. Honored with multiple recognitions, EL AL most recently has taken home a gold medal for the best dessert wine served to First Class passengers (Yarden Heights Gewurztraminer 2011), a bronze medal for the best white wine served to First Class passengers (Yarden Viognier 2011) and a bronze medal for best overall selection of wines. EL AL has also received awards for a variety of red wines served in all classes of service (First, Business and Economy) and white wines to First and Business Class passengers.
