Israeli Olympic Team Flies EL AL to Compete in 2012 Summer Olympics

New York, NY – July 16, 2012 – The 38-member Israeli Olympic team traveled to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, UK today onboard EL AL Israel Airlines. Earlier this year, EL AL was selected as the official airline of the team.  The Israeli athletes are competing in several events, some of which are rhythmic gymnastics, sailing, swimming, synchronized swimming, judo and tennis.

EL AL President Elyezer Shkedy and the Chairman of the Israeli Olympic Association, Zvi Varshaviak, congratulated and bid farewell to the team in the King David Lounge at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.  Prior to departure, each team member signed the “EL AL Torah,” a symbol of Israeli unity.
Additionally, President Shkedy presented the athletes with a GlobaLY ID card, which represents an EL AL program that supports charitable organizations (Taglit/Birthright, The Association for the Wellbeing of Israel’s Soldiers and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Israel) in bringing deserving individuals from around the world to Israel.
